Generally speaking, I feel that I communicate with people well enough to organize tasks with many groups. However, I do not push hard enough for others to do the same, which often results in one-sided communication. To improve, I should ask more for what others are working on and what their plans are besides just communicating what I am working on.
The teamwork in MIE315 was not as effective as would be hoped, mostly stemming from a lack of communication. From the first report, the Preliminary Consultant's Report (PCR), the lack of communication between the members led to a rushed finish. At the time, we considered this was due to the timing, as it was at the beginning of Reading Week, meaning some members were no longer in Toronto and meeting in person was not an option. However, there was not much improvement in the Final Consultant’s Report. We paired off into two teams of two as our schedules varied enough to make all four of us meeting outside of tutorial difficult. My partner and I met a few times a week to work on our sections, but that is not what the other pair was doing. While we were on track, they had not started the work. This was concerning but my partner and I hoped that they were doing work that was not in the document, such as research. I waited until too late to directly ask about what they were doing as seen below.
I feel that had I pushed for more open communication, we could have set up more internal deadlines or at least known if they needed help before the last couple of days before the deadline.
