As of writing this entry, my environmental impact awareness is mediocre as I have encountered it several times, but there is still much room for improvement. My societal impact awareness could be improved as I have not been assigned the societal section on an assignment and have not looked into it.
From first year, Engineering Strategies and Practice II (APS112) gave an introductory look at the impact on engineering in society and the environment. Due to our project, it was rather limited as we were designing a decision process, as seen below.
The project was to design a comparison system of which energy generation technology would be best used in the Canadian Territories. After considering the analyses techniques learnt in MIE315, the environmental consideration could definitely be expanded by using conventional life cycle analysis as we only considered emissions produced from the power generation itself.
